Livingston County Coroner Release Details on Accident with Fatalities
On Thursday, July 2, 2026 at approximately 1:15 a.m. police and fire rescue were sent to 70 East Road a 1⁄4 mile north of 1100 North Road in rural Gridley,Il. for a single vehicle accident. Upon arrival it was discovered that a Ford Fusion sedan with Illinois plates had struck a concrete bridge railing on the west side of the road. The vehicle had been traveling north bound on 70 East Road at the time of the crash. The vehicle hit the object head on causing extensive damage to the front end and driver side of the vehicle.
The accident claimed the lives of three Streator residents and all were pronounced deceased at the scene by the Livingston County Coroner. No one was ejected from the vehicle.
The driver was 22 year old Darwin E. Jimenez Chirino. The rear seat passenger was 21 year old Karen J. Lopez Surrudo and an infant child also a rear seat passenger.
An autopsy wil be performed on July 3, 2026 as part of the ongoing investigation. The Livingston County Sheriff’s office is investigating the accident. The Illinois State Police Accident Reconstruction unit was called to the scene and will work with the Sheriff’s office on the case. The Livingston County Coroner’s Office, Chenoa Fire/Rescue, Pontiac Fire, SELCAS ambulance service and Chenoa Police were all on scene assisting with the accident and removal.
No other details are being released at this time.
