VERGENNES – Melvin Eugene “Mel”  Holm, 79, passed away Monday, May 17, 2021 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale surrounded by his loving family. Mel was born February 8, 1942 to Milo and Evelyn (Mahannah) Holm in Streator. He married Mary Lynn Hylka on June 28, 1970 in Joliet. Mel served his country in the Army from February 19, 1964 to February 11, 1966. After his military service, Mel worked at the Joliet Army Ammunition Plant, where he met his future wife, followed by 38 years working in management at different chemical plant locations. He enjoyed spending time camping in his R.V., gardening, and keeping his yard meticulous. Sundays were spent watching Nascar, listening to Gospel music, and enjoying home-cooked meals. He was always there for his family to help out with projects. Mel is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Mary of Vergennes; son, Mark Holm of McHenry; daughter, Lisa (James) Thomas of Vergennes; brothers: Robert (Dorothy) Holm, Lee Holm, Malcolm Holm, and Darrell Holm; and five grandchildren: Alec Holm (fiance, Morgan Green), and James, Andrew, Kaitlyn, and Ashlyn Thomas.
