Dolores S. Hanner, age 87, of Odell, IL and formerly of Dwight, IL, passed away in South Roxana, IL at 4:36 a.m. on Thursday, March 18, 2021. Dolores was born in Collinsville, IL on October 27, 1933, the daughter of late Amelia (Ringering) Simmons. She is survived by a son, Robb Hanner and wife, Laura, of Athens, IL; a daughter, Lisa A. Black and husband, Kenneth, of South Roxana, IL; four grandchildren: Brittany Broadwater of South Roxana, IL; Nick Hanner of Athens, IL; Maggie-Grace Black of South Roxana, IL; and Makayla Gibbons of Cave City, KY; two great-grandchildren, Blayke and Maverick Gibbons of Cave City, KY. Also surviving are a brother, Charles Simmons of Carlyle, IL; a sister, Oma Margaret Henderson and her husband, Dale, of Livingston, IL; a sister-in-law, Sharon Simmons of Edwardsville, IL; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Dolores was preceded in death by her mother, Amelia; her grandparents and an aunt who raised her after her mother’s passing, Bernard and Margaret Ringering and Alvina Ringering; another aunt, Dorothy Hessel; a brother, Richard Simmons; and two sisters, Shirlee Stewart and Carol Sue Schindewolf. Dolores received a bachelors degree from Missouri Valley College. Among her many passions, teaching was her favorite, working in education for 45 years. She also enjoyed gardening and the performing arts. She had a passion for theatre and was known for her role as Morgan le Fay in Camelot at the Engle Lane Theatre for the performing arts at the William C. Schiffbauer Center. Dolores had recently become a YouTube star reading The Pigeon book series to students at Odell Grade School. A memorial visitation will take place on Thursday, March 25, 2021, at 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Dwight United Methodist Church, 701 S. Columbia St., in Dwight, IL. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cunningham Children’s Home or Engle Lane Theatre for the performing arts at the William C.
