Central Illinois Regional Airport Undergoes Extensive Rehab Of Short-Term Parking Lot – Travelers Should Be Aware
[Bloomington, IL] – The Central Illinois Regional Airport (CIRA) is seven days into the extensive rehabilitation of its short-term (two-hour) parking lot. This project involves full excavation of the center of the lot with milling and overlay of the outer areas in addition to rehab of the main exit lane in the long-term parking lot. The project is expected to wrap up in November when the short-term lot will re-open. All work is being done by Central Illinois contractors.
“We have utilized various communication media to ensure that CIRA visitors and airport staff are informed of changing pedestrian and vehicle routes between the terminal building and the long-term parking lot as we progress through the various phases of construction,” said CIRA Executive Director, Carl Olson. “Currently, there are uneven areas and hazards in the construction pavement zones, and we cannot emphasize enough to travelers that they do not walk through the construction area for their safety,” added Olson.
Travelers are asked to observe and obey signage placed throughout the terminal building and the parking lots as changing pedestrian and vehicle traffic patterns occur throughout the construction project’s various phases. Airport users are advised to allow for extra time to navigate the construction zones, consider using the free CIRA shuttle between the long-term parking lot and the terminal entrance, and pick up and drop off passengers at the front curb instead of parking.
