DEKALB COUNTY – The Illinois State Police (ISP) is releasing video of an officer involved shooting.

On April 27, 2026, at approximately 3 p.m., Warrenville Police Department officers located a vehicle near IL-59 and North Aurora Road connected with a missing person reportedly experiencing a mental health crisis. ​ Officers saw the driver, 36-year-old Joseph Moreno of Warrenville, holding a firearm out the window before he drove off. ​ Officers from multiple law enforcement agencies began following Moreno, who entered westbound I-88. ​ After following and attempting to stop the vehicle for approximately 20 minutes, the vehicle stopped near Keslinger Road. ​ Officers observed a shot being fired from the vehicle and as Moreno got out of the vehicle holding a firearm, an officer fired two shots, hitting Moreno. ​ Officers rendered medical aid to Moreno until he was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased. ​ ​ ​

In accordance with ISP’s commitment to integrity and public transparency, the video of the shooting is being made available to the public and can be found by clicking HERE. ​ ISP provided the Moreno family with the opportunity to review the video before its release to the public. ​ ​ ​

Upon completion of the investigation, ISP submitted the case to the DeKalb County State’s Attorney’s Office.
