Illinois State Police Releases Video of Crash Involving Trooper

On April 25, 2026, at approximately 2:30 a.m., a Trooper was traveling south on South 6th Street approaching the green light at the intersection of Linton Street in Springfield. A pedestrian, 45-year-old Charles Henderson of Springfield, IL, was bent down in the roadway when he was struck by the Trooper’s squad car. Troopers on scene rendered aid until EMS arrived. Troopers had encountered Henderson in the street earlier in the evening and conveyed he needed to stay out of the road. Henderson was transported to an area hospital and later pronounced deceased.

In accordance with the Police and Community Relations Improvement Act (50 ILCS 727) and the Illinois State Police Law (20 ILCS 2605), ISP Division of Internal Investigation special agents investigated the case and submitted all evidence and facts to the Sangamon County State’s Attorney’s Office.
