GEDC HOSTS NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF COUNTIES IN GRUNDY COUNTY
The Grundy Economic Development Council (GEDC) was proud to welcome the National Association of Counties (NACo) Rural Energy Academy Peer Exchange to Morris from June 30 to July 2. The event brought county leaders from across the country to Grundy County to experience firsthand the people, partnerships, and infrastructure helping shape the future of energy in the United States.
Throughout the visit, attendees engaged in discussions on some of today’s most important energy topics, including nuclear energy, battery energy storage systems, and the local planning and policy considerations that support responsible energy development at the community level.
Grundy County continues to distinguish itself as a leader in America’s energy future. With three Constellation nuclear facilities located within 20 miles, a highly skilled workforce with deep experience building, maintaining, and operating complex energy systems, strong transmission infrastructure, and a highly coordinated emergency response network, the region offers a powerful and uncommon combination of assets.
“If you want to scale up a nuclear project quickly, there is no better place than Grundy County, Illinois,” said Nancy Norton, President and CEO of GEDC.
That statement reflects a broader truth that was on full display throughout the event. Grundy County is not only part of the energy conversation, but also helping lead it. As the nation’s energy landscape continues to evolve, Grundy County stands at the intersection of innovation, reliability, and real-world expertise.
Hosting this peer exchange was both an honor and a point of pride for the region. It offered an opportunity to showcase local knowledge, highlight ongoing initiatives, and demonstrate the strength that comes from collaboration between local government, industry leaders, labor partners, and community stakeholders. All working together to support responsible energy growth.
The GEDC extends its sincere appreciation to the many partners who helped make this program a success. Special thanks to Argonne National Laboratory, LiUNA, Constellation, GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy, the City of Morris, Grundy County, and Senator Sue Rezin. Their participation and shared expertise helped create a meaningful and memorable experience for visiting county leaders and underscored the strength of partnership that defines this region.
