The Dwight Rotary has announced the cancellation of the Culpepper & Merriweather circus event scheduled for August 16, 2026.The cancellation is due to the passing of recent Illinois legislation which bans wild animals in traveling circuses. The down payment deposit will be refunded.
Illinois Expands Ban on Wild Animals in Circuses and Traveling Acts
Illinois has passed HB 4255, a landmark bill that expands its historic ban on using wild animals in traveling circuses, fairs, and other live performances. The law now prohibits the use of big cats, primates, and bears in these acts, in addition to the existing ban on elephants
