Cornell Grade School Track Athletes competed in the Class 1A State Track meet this past weekend, May  in East Peoria and brought home several medals.

Four athletes represented Cornell Grade School in events on both Friday and Saturday, leaving their best effort on the Track!
On Friday the Cougars had all 4 athletes compete. Brooklyn Lyons ran in the 7th grade girls 1600m run with a personal best time of 5:59.85.
Landon Lyons also competed in the 8th grade boys 1600m run.  He finished with a time of 5:07 and took home the 7th place medal in the event!

Leah Smith competed in the 8th grade girls Discus event on Friday as well throwing a distance of 27.65m  earning her the 4th place medal in the event.

Ryleigh Eggenberger competed in 2 events on friday scooping up medals in both!  Jumping a distance of 4.53m, Ryleigh took home the 5th place medal in the 8th grade girls long jump. And also running a season best time of 1:04, Eggenberger took home the 5th place medal in the 8th grade girls 400m dash.
The Cougars saw more action on Saturday as Landon Lyons competed in the 8th grade boys 800m run, finishing with a time of 2:19, and Ryleigh Eggenberger competed in the 8th grade girls 200m dash with a personal best time of 28.08.
Leah Smith also competed Saturday in the 8th grade girls Shot Put throwing a season best 10.03m crowning her the Class 1A State Champion! This title marks the second State Champion in Cornell history following Ramme Cooper’s 200m dash victory in 1990.
With only a small group competing for Cornell Grade School in the Class 1A/2A State Track meet, these 4 athletes certainly left their mark, proving that small schools carry big talent.  Congratulations Cougars!
