Prairie Creek Library closes out the spring with several events

Prairie Creek Public Library in Dwight has planned several events in May. These events are free and open to the public. However, due to limited space, registration is required. To register for any of the programs, please call 815-584-3061 or find a sign-up link on the library’s Facebook page or website, prairiecreeklibrary.org.

The library will continue its new American Made Series at 6 pm Monday, May 18, with Heinz and Campbell’s Soup Company. This series will look at the stories of some American-made products and companies.

Fast Fashion will be presented at 6 pm Tuesday, May 19. This lecture will discuss how social media and discounted online stores have impacted the fast changes in fashion trends and how thrift stores are becoming less and less accessible because of the new thrifting trends.

Jennifer Connor will lead Chair Yoga at 8 am Wednesdays, May 20 and 27. Please arrive prior to 8 am. Since the library is not open for business, the doors will be locked at 8 am once the class starts.

Music Bingo returns at 6 pm Wednesday, May 20. This is a night of fun, music, and prizes. Winners of each round will win a prize and get to choose the theme of music for the next round. Categories range from Elvis Presley to tv themes to Disney. There’s something for everyone.

Dwight Area Arts and Crafters – Quilters & Fiber Artists will meet at the library from 10 am-4 pm Thursday, May 21. This group is open to anyone who would like to join. Crafters can bring their projects to work in the company of others. Come and go as your schedule allows.

The library will be closed Monday, May 25, in observance of Memorial Day.

Shelf Indulgence Book Discussion will meet at 10 am Tuesday, May 26. All adults are welcome to join. This month’s book is “The Last House Guest” by Megan Miranda. Copies of the book are available at the main circulation desk.

Beginning May 26, children can pick up their “car kits” for our Drive-In for Kids, which will take place at 11 am Monday, June 8. Children will take the kit home and decorate a box from home that is big enough for them to sit inside. Then they will bring their finished “car” to the library to enjoy lunch and some entertainment.

Every Wednesday, Toddler Time will be offered for children aged 0-4 and their caregivers. This program includes stories, crafts, and activities.

Stayin’ Fit and Active morning workouts will continue at 8 am each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The class offers chair or gentle exercises, focusing on chair yoga, core strengthening and balance.
