DTHS Window Mural Artworks At Dwight Admin Complex
Please check out the Dwight Township High School Window Murals that are on display at the Dwight Village Hall for the Route 66 Red Carpet Corridor Festival. The students in Mrs. Farrell-Levnage’s Art 3 course were commissioned by Detective Gary Beier, Village Administrator Crissy Livingston, and the Dwight Village Hall Team to produce a series of artworks that showcases and commemorates the 100th Anniversary of Route 66 and the iconic Culture.

The students have been working on developing these artworks for only a short period of time. In less than two weeks, they met with Dwight’s very own Mural Artist Steven “Conman” Conner who gave the students insight on how to work with sketching the artwork, working large and with speed, and meeting the needs of the client. As the students were developing their ideas, they were able to utilize a VR Headset provided by the Dwight Police Department to project and enlarge the images in order to work quickly. Once they completed their sketches and had their practice completed, they met with their clients to share their vision. The students then took only two class periods to create on the windows and worked in between rainstorms to get the windows created to their artistic expectations.

Mikayla Chambers said her favorite part of the window mural project was, “being able to paint with different types of paints and using the window instead of a canvas because it was different” and Jayden Patterson said, “My favorite part had to be being outside and hanging out with everyone since my window was quite simple, getting to see a few people passing by and getting to pet a cute dog.” The students worked hard painting on the windows while people from all over the world would observe and comment on the artmaking. Logan Squellati explained, “We are created the mural because it had to be about route 66 and lighting McQueen the movie is mainly about a town on route 66.” People from as far as Germany were not only traveling route 66, but taking the time to view the art making process and engage with the Trojan Artists. Addison Eggenberger said” My favorite part of the project was using photoshop to create a sketch of what we were going to paint or painting the pinstripes.”
Moises Martin said, “Art class at DTHS has helped me be more creativity, and be more patient and helped me work harder for every class.” This is not the first, nor the last time that Trojan Artist will be out in the community creating beautiful artworks for all to see. Keep an eye out for more art in the future from these talented students.
The DTHS High School Art students will also be hosting an art show at the Redcarpet Corridor Event at the Country Mansion this weekend. We are also asking the community to vote on their favorite one for the People’s Choice Award.
