Dwight’s library hosts several upcoming events

Prairie Creek Public Library in Dwight will host a number of upcoming events. These events are free and open to the public. However, due to limited space, registration is required. To register for any of the programs, please call 815-584-3061 or find a sign-up link on the library’s Facebook page or website, prairiecreeklibrary.org.

A Euchre Tournament will take place at 5 pm Thursday, March 26. All adults are invited to play, and all skill levels are welcome. You do not need to bring a partner to play. While there is no cost to play, there will be a prize for the winner.

On Saturday, March 28, patrons of all ages are invited to decorate Minion Eggs at 1 pm. Participants will dye and decorate eggs to look like the minions from Despicable Me.

Herbs of Spring, which had been postponed, is now scheduled for Monday, March 30. Guests will learn about herbs and plants in season in our area and sample some teas and foods that use them.

25 Frozen, 1 Thawed: Murder and Mayhem in the Midwest is a lecture set for 6 pm Tuesday, March 31. Veteran journalist Bob Cyphers will go deep into the heart of unsolved and unforgettable crimes from America’s Midwest.

A Domino Tournament will be held at 5 pm Wednesday, April 1. The tournament will consist of the “All Fives” domino game. It is open to all skill levels. Anyone in grade 6 through adult are welcome to play.

The adult/teen craft night will be held at 6 pm Thursday, April 2. This month, participants will create Canning Ring Sunflowers. All materials will be provided to create this bright piece of décor.

Biomimicry: Inspired by Nature will be presented at 6 pm Tuesday, April 7. This program takes a look at how scientists explore the animal world for solutions to human problems. This program, presented by the Natural Naturalist, will include discussion on how a Kingfisher improved a high speed train, how a gecko helped astronauts, and how hedgehogs are reducing the chances of concussions. This program is for adults and older teens only since the program will include some animal ambassadors for guests to meet.

Our next Senior Social will be held at 1 pm Wednesday, April 8. This month, seniors will enjoy playing games together while having a springtime snack.

True Crime Discussion will be at 6 pm Thursday, April 9. This month, the group will discuss the disappearance of Molly Zelko. In a case so compelling Robert Kennedy came to Joliet to search for her himself, Molly was a crusading reporter investigating organized crime. She said, if anything ever happened to her, she would kick off her shoes as a sign. The shoes were the last trace of Molly in 1957.

Who was Duncan Hines? will be presented at 6 pm Monday, April 13. The name brings to mind box cake mixes, but Duncan was actually a traveling salesman who transformed the future of restaurant dining.

Livingston County historian Dale Maley will present The Life of Albert Cashier at 6 pm Thursday, April 16. During the Civil War, Irish-born Jennie Hodgers felt compelled to volunteer for the Union Army and transformed herself into Albert Cashier, who later settled in Saunemin.

Teens in grades 6-12 are invited to join us at 10:30 am Saturday, April 18, to learn techniques to use as they create their own Dragon Eye Painting.

American Artist Andy Warhol will be presented at 6 pm Thursday, April 23. Guests will learn about the life and art of Warhol, a successful magazine and ad illustrator who became a leading artist of the 1960s Pop art movement.

At 6 pm Monday, April 27, the library will have an Iced Tea Tasting with Kimberly’s Kupboard. This is open to teens and adults, and Kimberly will bring a variety of iced teas for taste testing.

Shelf Indulgence Book Discussion will meet at 10 am Tuesday, April 28. All adults are welcome to join. This month’s book is “Find You First” by Linwood Barclay. Copies of the book are available at the main circulation desk.

The library will introduce its new American Made Series at 6 pm Thursday, April 30, with Coke and Pepsi. This series will look at the stories of some American-made products and companies. This installment will present the origins of Coke and Pepsi, who created them, and how they stayed on top. We will have Coke and Pepsi products to try during the program.

Every Wednesday, Toddler Time will be offered for children aged 0-4 and their caregivers. This program includes stories, crafts, and activities.

Stayin’ Fit and Active morning workouts will be offered at 8:30 am each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, until March 16, when the time will move to 8 am. Tai Chi will be offered on March 16, 20, 23, 25, 30, and April 1, 6, 8, 10, 13, 15, 17, 20, and 24. The class will revert to its regular format of chair exercises on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays when Tai Chi is not offered.
