Grundy County Sheriff’s Office Investigating Fatal Traffic Crash

Date/Time of Crash: July 25th, 2026, at 3:09 P.M.

Location: 3000-block of N. Route 47; Unincorporated Morris, IL

Unit 1: Silver 2011 Buick Enclave
Unit 2: Gray 2020 Honda HR-V

Driver Information:

Unit 1 Driver: Joshua Ghantous; 27 years old of Bloomington, IL
Unit 2 Driver: Adam Gnutek; 35 years old of Chicago, IL

The Grundy County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a two-vehicle traffic crash that claimed the life of one person on Saturday, July 25, 2026.

At approximately 3:09 p.m., the Grundy County ETSB 911 Center received reports of a crash with injuries near the 3000 block of Illinois Route 47. Deputies, along with Morris Fire Protection District and EMS personnel, responded to the scene.

The preliminary investigation indicates Unit 1 was traveling northbound on Illinois Route 47 crossed the centerline and entered the southbound lane, where it collided head-on with Unit 2. The impact caused Unit 2 to overturn and come to rest on its roof in the ditch on the West side of the road

The driver of Unit 2, identified as Adam Gnutek, was extricated from the vehicle by the Morris Fire Department. He sustained critical injuries and was transported to Morris Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased by the Grundy County Coroner’s Office.

The driver of Unit 1, Joshua Ghantous, and his front-seat passenger, a 25-year-old adult female from Bloomington, IL, sustained serious injuries and were transported to Morris Hospital. Both were later flown by helicopter to Loyola University Medical Center for treatment. Two juvenile passengers, both in car seats, were transported by ambulance to Morris Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses told investigators they observed Unit 1 gradually drift across the centerline into oncoming traffic immediately before the collision.

The Grundy County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene to complete a reconstruction investigation. While that investigation was ongoing, Route 47 remained closed

Joshua Ghantous will be issued citations for Improper Lane Usage and Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.

The investigation will continue between the Sheriff’s Office, the Grundy County State’s Attorney’s Office, and the Grundy County Coroner’s Office.

Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Morris Fire Protection District, the Grundy County Emergency Management Agency, the Morris Police Department, and the Channahon Police Department.
