Dwight Historical Society Celebrates Rt 66

The Dwight Historical Society is celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Route 66 with a new exhibit in the museum as well as hosting several events during the Route 66 Red Carpet Corridor Festival. We hope you will plan to attend some of these events.

 

Museum Route 66 Exhibit May 2 & 3 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

The museum will be open from 9 to 1, on May 2 & 3, showcasing the businesses that thrived in the stretch of Old 66 running through Dwight. Businesses featured include Groll’s Red Crown Gas Station, Brilliant Bronze Gas Station, Clapp’s Supermarket, Carmen’s Fruit Stand, and Marx Garage to name a few.

Vintage Baseball Game Saturday, May 2 1 p.m.

The Blue Island Brewmasters will take on the Lemont Quarrymen in a vintage baseball game, playing by 1858 rules at Renfrew Park. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy the game.

Route 66 Panel Discussion Sunday, May 3 2:00 p.m.

A panel of Dwight locals and natives, Phillip Becker, Jim Livingston, Don McNamara, Mike Mezke, and Harlan Olson will share stories and experiences from working at businesses along Route 66 and at the Route 66 Visitor’s Center. The discussion will begin at 2:00 in the Garden Room at the Country Mansion.

Route 66 Trivia May 3 3:00 p.m.

Route 66 Trivia will follow the panel discussion at the Country Mansion at approximately 3:00. Bring your team or form one that afternoon and test your knowledge of Route 66 and other categories including cars, music, and candy.
