CULLOM – Roy Dale Knapp, 90, of Cullom, Illinois passed away Friday, September 30, 2022 at the Illinois Veterans Home in Manteno, Illinois. Cremation rites have been accorded. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Calvert and Martin Funeral Home in Cullom, Illinois. Inurnment burial with full military rites in West Lawn Cemetery, Cullom, Illinois, will immediately follow the Celebration of Life. Roy was born September 23, 1932 in Watseka, Illinois, the son of William and Priscilla (Feller) Knapp. He married Meri Earing on October 12, 1974 in Cullom, Illinois. She survives in Cullom, Illinois. Also surviving are his children: Janine (Casey) Loving of Kankakee and Jonathan Schmidt of Cullom; grandchild, Ethan; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Kenneth Knapp, Charles Knapp, Irvin Knapp, and Lynn Knapp; and a sister, Maryann Mann. Roy graduated from Hoopeston High School. He was in the United States Army and served in the Korean War. He was a factory worker for General Foods in Kankakee for 30 years. He was then employed as a custodian at Tri-Point Grade School at Kempton for eight years, finally retiring in 1995. Roy was a member of the Cullom American Legion and a lifelong member of the VFW. He loved to watch sports, especially the Bears, Cubs and Bulls games. He enjoyed gathering with his friends for coffee, which he did up until he was unable to drive.
