Gladys Rose Stecher, age 94, of Green Valley, Arizona and formerly of Ottawa, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2022. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 5, 2022 in St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Piper City, Illinois, with Rev. Marek Herbut officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Friday, November 4, with a Rosary Service by Sister Anne Harcharik at 3:45 p.m. at Gladfelter – Roetker Funeral Home in Ottawa, Illinois. Gladys was born July 15, 1928 in Piper City, Illinois, the only daughter of John Anton and Gladys Eliza (Blaine) Boma. She married Charles Robert Stecher June 11, 1946 in Piper City. He preceded her in death in 2004. Surviving are her children – daughters: Mary (Bob) Kacmarcik of Green Valley, Arizona, and Susan Powers of Evergreen, Colorado; sons: James (Dianne) Stecher of Greenfield, Indiana, and Ronald (Kathy)  Stecher of Upland, California. Also surviving are grandchildren: Derek Stecher, Dr. Dawn (Matt) Barcelona, Ben (Laura) Mehring, Kasey Powers and Nikki Powers; and great-grandchildren: Tucker Mehring, Carter Mehring, Kenley Mehring and Issac Barcelona. Her sisters-in-law, Dianne (Tom) Stecher Dorsey of Clairion, Iowa, and Margaret Boma of Gibson City; and many loving nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters-in-law: Theron (Dorothy), Donald, Richard (Christine), Jack (Marjorie), James, William (Rita), Francis and Theodore (Jo) Boma; son-in-law, Mike Powers; and son, Michael Stecher. Gladys had been a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Ottawa, Illinois, and currently was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, Green Valley, Arizona. She was a retired employee of the State of Illinois. Gladys was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She had a special place in her heart for the OSF Auxiliary, where she volunteered for 26 years, the Hospice of the West staff, and the Villa A caregivers at The Villas at Green Valley Assisted Living and Memory Care. She will be fondly remembered and deeply missed. Gladys was all about family and service to our Lord.
