Sylvia Bloomstrand, 91, of Bourbonnais peacefully entered heaven on Monday, September 5, 2022. She was born August 13, 1931, three minutes after her twin sister, Golda, in Anderson County, Kansas. She attended a one-room schoolhouse in rural Kansas before graduating from Parker Kansas High School on May 19, 1949. Sylvia was baptized at the First Christian Church in Garnett, Kansas on October 20, 1951. She completed LPN school and worked in a state hospital and doctor’s office before moving to Illinois. There, she met Leslie “Buck” Schade. They were married at the First Christian Church in Garnett, Kansas on August 15, 1954. They became members of the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Chatsworth, Illinois, until December 8, 1970, when they became members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Chats-worth. They moved to Dwight, Illinois and became members of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church on October 27, 1986. Leslie passed on December 28, 1992. Sylvia married Hartzell Bloomstrand on February 12, 1994. They became members of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Dwight on June 14, 1998. They shared a love of horses and competed in shows and fairs throughout Illinois. Hartzell passed on November 4, 2004. Sylvia moved to Bourbonnais, Illinois in June of 2017. She transferred membership to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Kankakee on March 29, 2018. Sylvia enjoyed teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She studied Bethel Bible Series. She loved reading, listening to music, crocheting, and hosting family and friends. Sylvia and Leslie had two children: Sylvia (Bill) Burger of Bourbonnais and Gary Schade (deceased). She had two granddaughters, Joann (Paul) Morgun of Glen Ellyn, Illinois and Emily Weller of Goodlettsville, Tennessee; and two great-grandchildren, Simeon and Claire Morgun. She is preceded in death by her father, mother, one brother, two sisters, two husbands, and one son. Visitation for Sylvia was held at Jensen Funeral Home of Kankakee on Sunday, September 11, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. On Monday, September 12, 2022 visitation was held from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Kankakee, followed by a funeral service. Immediately following the service, Sylvia was laid to rest at Chatsworth – Charlotte Cemetery in Chatsworth, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and School at 348 East Merchant Street, Kankakee, Illinois 60901.
