LeRoy “Peachy” Wakeman, age 92, of South Wilmington, Illinois passed away peacefully Thursday, August 25, 2022 at Lightways Hospice Home in Joliet, Illinois. Born November 27, 1929 in Coal City, Illinois to the late Fred and Mary (Mombrun) Wakeman. For 18 years, LeRoy worked for Berta Lumber in Coal City, eventually retiring from the Laborer’s Local #75 after many years of employment. LeRoy enjoyed his daily golf cart cruises, whether it was a trip to the South Wilmington  Fireman’s Club, where he loved to fish, or around town catching up with neighbors. He took great care of his garden, and thoroughly enjoyed woodworking. His best times were spent having family and friends over, and not to forget, swinging with his dog, Lucky. Surviving are his wife of 69 years, Irene Marie (nee Domagala) Wakeman of South Wilmington, whom he married July 18, 1953 in St. Lawrence Catholic Church in South Wilmington; two children, Terry (Diane) Wakeman of Coal City and Debra (fiance, Steve Yero) Basham of South Wilmington; four grandchildren, Lisa (Raymond) Brackett of Coal City; Kellie (Ryan Dodge) Basham of Morris, Illinois; Kyle (Katie) Basham of South Wilmington; and Michelle Emmons of Phoenix, Arizona. Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren: Rhylan, Tyler, Brynna, Calen, Tucker, Jenna and Lauren; numerous nieces, nephews and their families; and his four-legged companion, Lucky. Preceding him in death were his parents, Fred and Mary; two great-grandchildren, Reese and Raygan; son-in-law, Ed Basham; two brothers, Raymond (Josephine) Wakeman and Louis (Joan) Wakeman; and two sisters, Ella Mae (Troy) Bridges and Mildred (Walter) Elliott. As per LeRoy’s wishes, cremation rites were accorded without services. R. W. Patterson Funeral Home & Crematory is entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his name may be directed to the South Wilmington Volunteer Fire Department.
