Iris Ilea Beier, age 17, of Blackstone, Illinois passed away Monday evening, April 18, 2022, at Morris Hospital after an asthma attack stopped her heart. Our sincerest thanks to the Morris Hospital Emergency Department. I will never forget the sweat soaking your scrubs and the tears in your eyes as you fought for my daughter when she couldn’t fight for herself.
Born on December 13, 2004, Iris was the heart of our home. While often short of breath, she was never short of kindness. Her sense of humor and quick-witted quips lightened the lives of everyone around her. She could always be counted on to make others laugh. Iris showed love through her actions and didn’t hesitate to reach out a hand to friends or family in need.
She was gifted both personally and academically. Iris was a Board Scholar and member of the National Honor Society who maintained a perfect grade point average. She was enrolled in many dual credit and Advanced Placement classes as she prepared to attend college. Iris loved being a Peer Advisor working with elementary age children and looked forward to having her own children some day.
She was an active member in Spanish Club, Yearbook, Choir, and played basketball and softball for many years. Iris was also selected to represent DTHS at the HOBY Youth Leadership Conference. When not overachieving, she enjoyed spending time with her boyfriend, Thomas, or making mischief at home with her family and plethora of cats.
Iris is survived by her mother, Catherine (Mahan) Beier; her sister, Eden Beier; and brother, Oren Beier; her boyfriend, Thomas Dochterman; and her six Siamese cats (Isla, Skye, Finn, Briar, Wren and Rowan). Her father, Jerry, preceded her in death.
Visitation was held from 2 until 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 24, 2022, with services immediately following in the auditorium at Dwight Township High School in Dwight, Illinois. Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorials in honor of Iris may be made to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America. Hager Memorial Home is in charge of arrangements.
While her years with us were too short, she packed a lifetime of memories into that time. Iris was a never-ending source of light and side-splitting laughter. May we find comfort in her absence through the treasured memories we carry of her in our hearts.
