Barbara Lee Kobel, 85, of Plainfield, Illinois and formerly of Naperville, passed away on Monday, March 28, 2022. She was born January 14, 1937 in Aurora, Illinois to Mathilda Cecilia (nee Preigel) and John William Reed. Beloved mother of Colleen Beumel and Christian H. (Carissa) Kobel III; Dear grandmother of Taylor Beumel and Samantha (Austin) Simpson; Excited to soon-to-be great-grandmother of Baby Boy Simpson; she is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Constance Kobel; and brothers, Donald and Jack Reed. During her professional career with Carson Pirie Scott &  Co., Marshall Field & Company, and Pakula & Company are where she broke many corporate glass ceilings, in then a man’s world during the ’60s, ’70s and the ’80s. Those accomplishments were unheard of then and are the legacy that many professional women enjoy to this day, because of her and women like her back then. She was a “Tiger Lady” to the very end and that is what made her amazing. She was an accomplished golfer, an outstanding mentor, a devout Catholic, a devoted friend and most of all a wonderful mother and grandmother. Barbara was feared by some, loved by many, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
