Marlene Nelson, age 84, of Herscher and formerly of Dwight, passed away Friday, January 28, 2022 at Heritage Health Care and Rehab in Dwight, Illinois. Graveside services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, February 1, 2022 in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Dwight, Illinois. Memorials in honor of Marlene may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Hager Memorial Home in Dwight is in charge of arrangements. Marlene was born June 4, 1937 in Sinclair, Maine, the daughter of Paul and Anna (Michaud) Chamberlain. She married Gary Nelson on November 28, 1958 in Sinclair, Maine. He survives in Herscher, Illinois. Also surviving are children: Michael (Janie Sendra) Nelson of Glasgow, Kentucky; Lisa (Troy) Koehler of Reddick, Illinois; Mark (Rose) Nelson of San Francisco, California; niece, Jackie Baller of Joliet, Illinois; grandchildren: Cassandra (Mason), and Jacob (Aaron); great-grandchildren: Jaxson, Ethan, Gavin, Lucas, Zane and Chase; and a special friend, Crystal Nelson. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; five sisters; and daughter, Julia Lynn Nelson. Marlene loved to crochet, sew and all manner of handcrafts; boating in Michigan; and spending time with family especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed entomology and being a part of forest fire prevention, in Maine. She ran the Blackstone movie theater and the fabric center at Kaiser’s Dime Store in Dwight.
