Doris M. Courchene, age 94, of Dwight, Illinois passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at Heritage Healthcare and Rehab in Dwight, Illinois.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m., Friday, February 25, 2022 at Hager Memorial Home.
A brief remembrance will be held at 6 p.m. that same day, also at the Memorial Home.
According to Doris’ wishes, cremation rites will be accorded following the services.
Private family burial will be at a later date in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Dwight.
Memorials in honor of Doris may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Hager Memorial Home in Dwight is in charge of arrangements.
Doris was born April 1, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Albin and Margaret (Johnson) Engstrom. She married Thomas F. Courchene on June 16, 1949. Sadly, he passed away June 26, 2005.
Surviving are her children: Mary Courchene-Svoboda of Dwight; Thomas A. Courchene of Dwight; and Kathy (Gregg) Widaman of Berwyn, Illinois; grandchildren: Kerin (Dave White) Larson of Odell; Lisa (Mike VanDiepenbos) Hoogenboom of Goshen, Indiana; John (Kyra Conley) Courchene of Elkhart, Indiana; Michelle (Jason Trittipo) Courchene of Niles, Michigan; Barbara (Robbie Hendrix) Courchene of Elkhart, Indiana; Clint (Patty Cook) Courchene of Elkhart, Indiana; Natalie (John) Kronforst of Mt. Prospect, Illinois; and Gregg (Jackie Segura) Widaman Jr. of Berwyn.
Also surviving are 15 great-grandchildren: Kinzie, Noah, Milly, Whitney, Devin, Delmar, Lydia, Clay, Alexander, Belle, Derek, Bo, William, Madison and Austin; and one great-great-grandchild, Myla.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Walter Engstrom; and sisters: Elaine Chamberlin and Lois Covlasky.
Doris was a nurse for many years. She loved flowers, gardening, playing bingo and other gambling, fishing, needlepoint, painting and many other arts and crafts.
She will be remembered for her piano playing and singing. She was a member of the Downers Grove Oratorio Society.
