Leslie Ann Barna, age 60, of East Brooklyn, Illinois passed away Friday, October 29, 2021 at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, Illinois. Leslie was a caring nurse for the past 40 years. She previously worked for Silver Cross Hospital and Loyola Medical Center. She currently worked as the stroke coordinator at St. Joseph Medical Center, where she won the Life Saving Partners Award in 2018. Leslie was a passionate patient advocate, then serving her surrounding community as a home health nurse for the past two years. She was an avid Chicago Cubs and Chicago Black-hawks fan. She was a devoted alumni of Gardner South Wilmington High School and continued her love of sports by supporting her daughters and their fellow Kohawks at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Leslie’s greatest love was her daughters, Sophie and Celia, and being able to see them continue her legacy as nurses themselves. She was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in South Wilmington. Surviving are her mother, Estelle M. (nee Sarti) Sorensen of East Brooklyn, Illinois; two daughters, Sophie Barna and Celia (Carter Rodman) Barna, both of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two brothers, Greg (Mona) Sorensen of South Wilmington and Steve (Cathy) Sorensen of Gardner; four special nieces and nephews: Nicole (Aaron) Halpin, Krista (Bobby) Netrval, Josh Sorensen, and Jamie Sorensen; and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, and a special fur friend, Chewy. Preceding her in death were her father, William H. Sorensen; and uncle and aunt, Mario Jr. and Ruth Sarti. Visitation was at the R. W. Patterson Funeral Home & Crematory on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 from 4 until 8 p.m. Funeral services were held at the funeral home on Thursday, November 4, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Kevin Boesen officiating. Interment followed in Braceville – Gardner Cemetery in Braceville, Illinois.
