Marguerite “Maggie” Olsen, age 98, formerly of Verona, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at the home of her daughter in Golden Valley, Arizona. Born December 14, 1922 in Union, Maine, Marguerite Hazel was a daughter of William G. and Alice (Leach) Daniels. She was raised and educated in St. George, Maine and went on to honorably serve in the United States Army during World War II. In March of 1947, Marguerite married Donald John Olsen in Waltham, Massachusetts, and together they made a home and raised a family. She worked for the William W. Fox Developmental Center in Dwight, from where she retired, and was a member of First Baptist Church in Dwight. Throughout the years, Maggie enjoyed traveling, riding through the desert, and in her free time took pleasure in reading and puzzles. Survivors include her six children: William Olsen of South Wilmington, Illinois; Lois Pickens of Golden Valley, Arizona; Dawn (Wayne) Mize of Dwight, Illinois; Marjorie Hansbrough of Norris City, Illinois; Christine Mills of Chadron, Nebraska; and Donald (Barbara) Olsen of Verona, Illinois. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, as well as many great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren; three sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews. Marguerite was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Walter Olsen; one daughter, Sheila McCulley; her daughter-in-law, Carol Olsen; two sons-in-law, Bill Pickens and Jack Hansbrough; two brothers; one sister; and one grandson. The family will receive friends for a visitation at Reeves Funeral Home, 203 Liberty Street, in Gardner on Saturday, October 9, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of funeral service, 11:00 a.m. Pastor Daniel Woodward from the First Baptist Church in Dwight will officiate. Burial will follow in McDowell Cemetery, Dwight, where Maggie will be laid to rest with her late husband, son, and grandson.
