Glen R. Abell, 73, of Sumner, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, July 29, 2021 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana after a brief hospitalization. Glen was born November 2, 1947 in Lukin Township to William Gerald and Floye June (Marx) Abell. They preceded him in death. He married Carolyn Cox on November 8, 1975 in Oats-ville, Indiana. She survives. Also surviving are his sons: Glen Jr. (fiancee Melissa) of Olney and William (fiancee Crystal) of Sumner; his partner in crime, granddaughter, Autumn of Olney; and his sister, Annette (Troy) Riegel of Dwight. In addition to his parents, Glen was preceded in death by his sisters, Elizabeth Mardis and Candi VonBehren; and his brothers, GP Abell, Billy Abell and Randy Abell. Glen was a member of Hopewell Methodist Church. He was a 35-year retired member of Laborers Local 561 in Evansville. He spent many years as a Boy Scout leader. Glen enjoyed hunting and riding his motorcycle, and in later years especially, his trike. He collected five-gallon buckets and he loved hunting for mushrooms in the spring. He was cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held on October 9, 2021 at Hopewell Church at noon. Cunningham Funeral Homes will be assisting the family.
