Ellis William Burger, 91, of Gardner, IL  passed away peacefully with his family by his side at 7:19 p.m., Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at his home. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at Hager Memorial Home, Dwight, IL. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, Mazon, IL. Visitation was held at the Funeral Home Tuesday, June 29, 2021 from 4 until 8 p.m. Memorials in Ellis’ name may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Ellis was born February 21,1930 to Ellis Joseph and Ila Mae (Scott) Burger. He was formerly married to Margy (Viner) Burger. She survives in Mazon, IL. He is also survived by his daughter, Linda Sanders of Mazon; grandchild, Sheila Clouse of Mazon; great-grandson, Carter Clouse of Mazon; sister, Mary (Dan) Lewan-dowski of Dwight; nieces and nephews:  Margo (Terry) Oxendine and Danah (Matt) Kenney, both of Verona; Tim (Melanie) Burger and Jim (Judy) Burger, both of Pontiac; Tina (Blair) Barton of Cornell; Danny (Debbie) Burger of Seneca; Mike (Teresa) Burger of LaSalle-Peru; and many other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by son, Richard M. Burger; and brothers: Mervin, Lyle, Donald and Eldon. Ellis retired from the State of Illinois after many years of service, and also worked over the years as a farmer, corn sheller, tree trimmer, sheep shearer, and was employed at both CAT and the Joliet Arsenal. He was a longtime breeder and exhibitor of Hereford hogs and Welsh ponies, at both the local and state levels.
