Walter T. Johnson, 79, of Dwight, IL passed away in his home Tuesday, November 3, 2020 surrounded by his family. Cremation rites were accorded. Private burial will be on May 21, 2021 in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL. Memorials in honor of Walter may be made to the Dwight SOS or the Dwight Ministerial Association. Hager Memorial Home in Dwight, IL is in charge of arrangements. Walter was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 21, 1941. He was the son of Walter Thorsten and Hazel Harriet (Cajune) Johnson Sr. He married Kathleen Dusseau on February 10, 1979 in Chicago. She survives in Dwight. He is also survived by his children:  Andrew Johnson, Kevin Johnson, David Johnson, Daniel Johnson, and Kimberly Johnson; step-children: Tanya Jennings and Thomas Powers; grandchildren; and sister, Nancy (Neal) Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents. Walter served in the United States Army during Vietnam and upon leaving the service worked for General Motors and many railroad companies as a locomotive test engineer. He was a member of the Dwight United Methodist Church and a member of the men’s group at church, as well as the dartball team. Walter and his wife always enjoyed hiking, and hiked more than 104 national parks and monuments. He will be sadly missed by his friends and family.
