Patricia Lyn “Pat” Hess, age 63, of Ottawa, IL was called home on Monday, February 8, 2021 after an extremely short battle of fast-growing stage 4 cancer and spinal fluid infection. Cremation Rites have been entrusted to the Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa. A Celebration of Pat’s life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the family. Pat was born to Larry and Betty (Soltis) Spaniol on May 28, 1957 in Streator, IL. She was a graduate of Woodland High School, in Streator, class of 1976. Pat married the love of her life, Dean Hess, on June 14, 1986, in Ottawa, where she lived out 34 years of marriage on an 80-acre farm. Pat is survived by her husband, Dean; two children, Jen (Doug) Corrigan of Dwight, IL and Jake (Gianna) Hess of San Diego, CA. She also has two grandchildren, Colton (20) and Braelyn (11), both of Dwight. Her nine sisters and brothers also survive her: Sue Fujinaga, Steve Spaniol, Phil Spaniol, Barb Willoughby, Cindy Talty, Dave Spaniol, Dale Spaniol, Clare Brust, and Amy Gass. Also surviving are her mother-in-law, Jean Hess; sister-in-law, Jarrett Papineau; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Pat was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Raymond Spaniol; a sister, Cathy Livingood; and her father-in-law, Chuck Hess. Pat had many trades, including a secretary for roughly 10 years at RME, Ottawa Glass, The Glass Shop, and Peltier’s Glass. She then moved on to the laboring trade and joined Local 911 for three years, after which she joined her husband and in-laws in the woodworking trade (Furniture by Hess), and eventually, she and Dean took over what is now called Hess Wood for the past 20 years. Just a few of her many hobbies: Pat enjoyed mowing, cooking, riding her golf cart on the farm wide trails, spending time with her husband, collecting pottery, garage sale shopping, camping/RVing, boating, crappie fishing, and drinking Budlight. She loved meeting her daughter, Jen, for breakfast. She looked forward to the daily phone calls from her son, Jake, who lives in San Diego, CA.
