Charles E. Johnson, 69, of Dwight, IL passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at Good Samaritan in Pontiac, IL. Funeral services will be private for the family and a burial will follow in Union Cemetery, Emington, IL. A celebration of life will take place at a later date. Memorials in honor of Charles and in lieu of flowers may be made to the First Congregational Church or a charity of the donor’s choice. Hager Memorial Home in Dwight, IL is in charge of arrangements. Charles was born in Streator, Illinois on August 4, 1950 to John and Loraine (Gray) Johnson. He is survived by brothers, Larry (Jean) Johnson and Harry (Mary) Johnson, both of Dwight; nieces: Amy Johnson of Seneca, Kristina (Brian) Felker of Heyworth; nephew, BJ Johnson of Dwight; great-niece and nephews, Cody Bratcher of Seneca, Brooke and Blake Johnson of Dwight. He was preceded in death by his parents; niece, Kimberly Smith; grandparents, Clarence and Rosa Gray, John and Kristine Johnson; and aunt, Pearl Gray. He graduated from Dwight Township High School in 1968 and worked for the local post office for more than 30 years. He was a member of the First United Congregational Church, and was very active in the church, both in Dwight and in Emington. He was also a member of the Danish Brotherhood, the VFW Auxiliary, the Sons of the American Legion, the Historical Society, Emington Days, Dwight Harvest Days, and was on the board of Prairie Creek Library in Dwight, IL. He played and captained the Congregational Church’s dartball team – just to name a few. Charles also volunteered at St. James Hospital in Pontiac, and was named volunteer of the year by the Dwight Economic Alliance for 2020.
