SOUTH WILMINGTON – Barbara “Bobby” Lamar Lindstrom, 83, of South Wilmington and formerly of Lockport, passed away in Joliet Thursday, August 11, 2016 after a four-year battle with cancer.
Barbara was born October 12, 1932 in Coatesville, Pennsylvania, daughter of Harry and Suzanna Lamar.
She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Harold E. Lindstrom Jr.; and their three children: Jeffrey Lindstrom, Karen (Jim) Ketelaar and Kathleen Shapiro.
She is also survived by four grandchildren: Erik Ketelaar, Taylor Ketelaar, Natalie (Brett) Bozeman and Angela Shapiro; and her great-granddaughter, Jordan Bozeman.
Last, but not least, she leaves her beloved dog, Suzie.
Preceding her in death were her father and mother; step-mother, Ethyl Lamar; and her brother, Harry George Lamar.
Barbara graduated from Scott High School in Coatesville, PA and Joliet
Junior College with an Associate’s Degree in Library Science. She worked in the children’s department at Fountaindale Library in Bolingbrook, and as librarian and yearbook advisor at Gardner South Wilmington High School.
She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Dwight. She was publicity chairman and on the fellowship committee for the church, and was formerly president of the Mary and Martha organization.
Barbara loved decorating, hosting parties, auctions, and gardening. She also loved shopping, and taught her daughters well. She loved her family and friends and always put others’ needs before her own.
A chapel service was held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, August 16, at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, New Lenox.
Visitation was held in the Chapel Monday from 3 until 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Barbara’s memory to Joliet Hospice or Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Dwight.
