DWIGHT – Helen J. Gemmill, 95, passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at Heritage Health in Dwight, where she had resided nearly nine years.
Helen Jeanette was born March 20, 1920 in Harlowtown, Montana, second child of Emil and Jeanette Wunderlich Heinrich.
The family moved to a farm south of Dwight in 1937. She married Earl W. Gemmill, her neighbor, on Easter Sunday, April 5, 1942 in Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Dwight.
Surviving are daughters, Charlene (Larry, deceased) George of Bloomington; and Jane (Gary) Residori of Bourbonnais.
Also surviving are her grandchildren: David and Brian George of Blooming- ton, Gina (Terry) Deyoung of Bourbonnais; and Jeffery (Amber) Residori of Herscher; six great-grandchildren: Taylor and Brady George, Max and Logan DeYoung, and Alysandra and Kennedy Residori; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, October 14, 1996; parents; son-in-law, Larry George; sisters: Margaret (Herman) Dummer, Elsie (Leighton) Schultz, Lucille (Wayne) Bloxam, and Mary Anne (Bill) Feldberg; brothers: William (Ruth) Heinrich and Lester (Carol) Heinrich; a brother in infancy, Arthur Heinrich; and sisters-in-law, Helen (Duane) Wilson and Vera (Ralph) Spangler.
Helen was a farm wife and enjoyed gardening. She was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Dwight. She also made many lap robes for the Manteno Veterans Hospital.
Private family services were held in McDowell Cemetery, Dwight.
Memorials may be made to the Emmanuel Lutheran Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
