STREATOR – Doris Jean Simantel Vogen, 92, of Streator and formerly of Dwight, passed away Monday, July 6, 2015 at Heritage Healthcare of Streator at 2:45 p.m.
Doris was born December 10, 1922 in Goodfarm, daughter of Martin and Hildagarde Hahn Simantel. She married Raymond Laverne “Bill” Vogen October 4, 1942 in Houston, Texas.
Her husband survives in Streator. Also surviving are her niece, Linda (Joe) Spiezio of Morris; nephews: Terry Koval and Todd Swartz; and a great-niece, Jenny Madison; along with many other nieces and nephews.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Irene Swartz.
Doris was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She attended Goodfarm Center School and graduated from Dwight Township High School. She worked for Sherwin Williams as a press operator in Chicago for 33 years making paint containers.
Throughout the years, Doris followed her husband’s career in the Army, and traveled the world including Japan, China and much of Europe.
Visitation was held Monday, July 13, at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Dwight, from 1 until 2 p.m., with services immediately following.
Interment: Goodfarm Cemetery, Dwight.
Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church; Heritage Health in Streator; or the charity of the donor’s choice.
