Charlotte Fatlan, age 89, of Braceville, Illinois passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, April 23, 2022. Charlotte was the eighth born of 13 children to the late John and Katherine Mack (nee Wisneski) on June 13, 1932 in Whiting, Indiana. She married Earl “Shorty” Fatlan, Sr. on February 26, 1949 in Morris, Illinois. Together they started their family in Gardner and then built their forever home along the Mazon Creek in rural Braceville, where she grew up swimming and ice skating with her siblings, and years later with her own children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She lived almost her entire life on Huston Road. In the 1950s together with her brother-in-law, Leo, they started Fatlan Trucking in Gardner. Charlotte enjoyed camping, fishing, playing cards, and sitting around the campfire at the family club that her parents started, the J & K Rancho. A master gardener, she often canned and shared goodies with all of her family and friends. She loved playing the organ and polka dancing at all of the Mack family weddings. Everyone was welcome at her table for coffee and toast and were treated like family. Charlotte instilled a love of family that will endure for generations to come. Surviving are her five children:  Earl Jr. “Shorty” (Debbie) Fatlan; Bruce Fatlan, Sr.; Duane (Susan) Fatlan; Debra (Pete) Pierce; and Donna (Rick) Marketti; grandchildren: Amy (John) Kelly, Melissa (Scott) Kramer, Bruce Jr. (Beth)  Fatlan, Michelle (Kris) Foster, Brian (Jill) Fatlan, Candace (Matt) Pluger, Kristin (Anthony) Lissy, Jenny (Daniel) Harvey, Betsy (Bryan) Hennessy, and Blake (Sabrina) Marketti. Surviving are great-grandchildren: Leo and RJ Kelly; Amelia and Stellan Kramer; Baily, Ben, Brody, and Britney Fatlan; Bryce, Makayla, Madelyn, and Meleah Foster; Dylan and Devon Fatlan; Madelyn Storm, Chloe and Jaxon Pluger, Kaitlyn Harty, Marlie, Preston, and Grant Lissy, Ashton and Addison Harvey, Emma and Claire Hennessy, and Beau Marketti. Also surviving are siblings: Robert Mack, Jennie (Al) Zlomie and Melvin (Diane) Mack; sister-in-law, Geri Mack; brother-in-law, Tom Hillis; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband, Earl “Shorty” Fatlan, Sr.; five brothers: John Jr. (Joyce), Kenneth (Irene), Earl, Martin (Judy), and Carl Mack; four sisters: Grace Francois (William Hutton); Catherine (James) Flynn; Christine (John)  Housman; and Anna Hillis; brothers-in-law, Leo (Virginia) Fatlan and Robert P. Weidling; and sisters-in-law, Jean Mack and Dolores Mack. Funeral services will be Thursday, April 28, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at the R. W. Patterson Funeral Home & Crematory in Braidwood. Visitation will be Wednes-day, April 27, 2022 from 4 until 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the Braceville Fire Department.
