PONTIAC – Phyllis Elaine Schmidt, 93, of Dwight and formerly of Pontiac, passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at 7:55 p.m. at Heritage Healthcare of Dwight. A visitation was held for Phyllis on Sunday, August 2, 2020 from 4 until 6 p.m. at Calvert and Martin Funeral Home. The visitation was held in accordance with current Covid-19 guidelines. A private family service was held at the funeral home. Calvert and Martin Funeral Home, Pontiac, is handling the arrangements. Phyllis was born April 15, 1927 in rural Odell, the daughter of John C. and Algoga (Wells) Bolen. She married Walter “Junior” Schmidt on September 1, 1945. He preceded her in death on April 18, 1998. On September 9, 2002, she married James Walsh. He preceded her in death on December 24, 2012. She is survived by a daughter, Marie (Lee) Bunting of Dwight, IL; two sons: Gene (Diane) Schmidt of Hanna, IN, and Dean (Faith) Schmidt of Dunlap, IL; step-children: Kathleen (Doug) Lowery, Jay (Debra) Walsh, Susan Walsh, and John (Jodi) Walsh; 11 grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a brother-in-law, Hermie (Janice) Schmidt; two sisters-in-law, Joan Bolen and Rita Bolen. She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Barbara Ann; a daughter, Mary Kay Zimmer; four brothers: Paul Bolen, Sam Bolen, John Bolen Jr., and Robert Bolen; and five sisters: Helen Vitzthum, Thelma Van Buskirk, Mary Cleary, Betty Myers and Lucille Clevenger. Phyllis was a homemaker and worked various jobs including being a CNA at St. James Hospital. She clerked at True Value and Don’s Red Fox. She worked at the famous Dinky Diner with Chuck Johnson. She waitressed at Hardees and Old Log Cabin Restaurant. She was also a greeter and pizza chef at Wyllies Convenience Store. Phyllis was a superb cook and pie baker. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo. She was a member of the Women of the Moose, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and the Emington Women’s Club.
