EMINGTON – Charles L. Ehrhardt, 66, of Emington quietly passed away Friday, July 1, 2016 at Riverside Hospital in Kankakee with his family at his side. His funeral is today, Wednesday, July 6, at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick Catholic Church, Dwight, with Father Chris Haake officiating. Burial will follow in Sunny Slope Cemetery, Saunemin. Visitation was Tuesday from 4 until 7 p.m. in St. Patrick Church, with a Rosary recited at 3:30 p.m. Chuck was born December 21, 1949 in Pontiac, son of Charles V. and Bernice Irvin Ehrhardt. He married Norma A. Vitzthum July 30, 1977 in Pontiac. She survives in Emington. Also surviving are his two daughters and sons-in-law, Lindsay and Ryan Adams of Bourbonnais and Tracy and Justin Eggenberger of Dwight; four grandchildren: Harrison and Hudson Adams and Abraham and Ava Eggen-berger; and his mother-in-law, Martha Vitzthum of Pontiac. Chuck was raised in Emington, attended grade school in Emington, and graduated from Saunemin High School in 1969. He served in the U.S. Army and was Commander of the Saunemin American Legion Post 531. He was also treasurer of the Saunemin Fire Protection District and trustee of Union Township. He was employed at Interlake, Illinois Department of Transportation, and he farmed. His parents and his father-in-law, Clair “Bugs” Vitzthum, preceded him in death. Chuck was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan. He enjoyed farming, hunting and fishing, especially his Canadian trips with his buddies, and if he wasn’t doing any of those things, he could be found in his tool shed. His family, especially his grandchildren, were his pride and joy. Memorial gifts in his name may be directed to Saunemin Fire Department, St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dwight, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
