Dwight – index-1.phpBurl Roger Lucus, 89, of Dwight, formerly of the Long Point-Cornell area passed away on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Heritage Manor in Dwight, surrounded by his family. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 from 5-7 p.m. at Hager Memorial Home, Dwight. Masonic services will be held immediately following the visitation. Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at the Dwight United Methodist Church. Burial will take place at Long Point Cemetery, Long Point.
Burl was born on September 18, 1926 to Jesse Ross and Lorena (Cashmer) Lucus in Amity Twp., IL. He married Shirley Maurine Talbot on October 18, 1945 at the Long Point Methodist Church, recently celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary. She survives in Dwight.
He is survived by his children, Charles (Jan) Lucus of New Bloomfield, MO, Sheryl (Lyle) Landstrom of Heyworth, Beverly (Gary) DeLong of Dwight; also surviving are 15 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sons, Francis in infancy and Roger Lucus; 4 grandchildren; his sisters, Marcia Saxton, Doris Willis and Stella Jean Lucus and his brothers, Russel, Eldon, Victor and Lawrence Lucus.
Burl farmed his entire life beginning in the Cornell, Long Point area, and has farmed the Dwight and Gardner area for the last 63 years. He also worked at Mobil Chemical in Joliet for 23 years. He was a 32nd degree Mason. He was a member of the Dwight United Methodist Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Illinois.
