Leah Sorensen-Christensen

SORENSEN.GARDNER – Leah Sorensen- Christensen, 92, of Gardner went home to the Lord Thursday, January 21, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born February 5, 1923 in Garfield Township, daughter of Frank and Ina McDonald Male. She married Russell “Spud” Sorensen in 1942 and after his passing, she married Robert “Bob” Christensen in 1991.

A member of the Church of Hope in Gardner, avid lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Gardner Seniors, Leah took pride in sewing and quilting many items for the veteran’s administration.

She was also very active in genealogy and enjoyed gardening in her beautiful yard. She also enjoyed playing cards, but most of all she loved spending time with her large family.

Surviving are six children: Randy (Mary) Sorensen of Plattville; Gail (Rick) Decker of Braceville; Rusty (Barb) Sorensen of South Wilmington; Jeff (Nadia Brozovich) Sorensen of Manteno; Darren (Dawn) Sorensen of Morris; and Holly (Alan) Nielsen of Dwight.

Also surviving are three step-daughters: Kathleen, Sandy, and Bobbi; 23 grandchildren: Douglas, Kim, Jeremy, Jodi (Peter), Brooke, Melisha, Michael (Tiffany), Carrie, Steve (Kathy), Lori (Jason), Michele (Rick), Stacy (Keith), Scott (Chris), Renee, Shawna, Dane, Lindsay (Mike), Caitlin (Bryan), Brittany, Ashley, Zack, Leanne, and Mark; numerous great- grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson, Luke.

One sister, Ardella (Jim) Harris of Gravois Mills, Missouri; one daughter-in-law, Sheila Sorensen; and numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Preceding her in death were her parents; husbands; children: Duane Sorensen, Charlene Sorensen, Lonnie Sorensen, Janice Sorensen- Cushing and Lawrence Sorensen; step-daughter, Lynne; one granddaughter, Katherine Nielsen; and siblings: Frances Muzzarelli; Bob, Jack, Chuck, Bud and Dickie Male.

Rev. Jan Chandler officiate at the funeral services Tuesday, January 26, at 12 noon in the Church of Hope in Gardner, with visitation two hours preceding the service.

Interment: Braceville-Gardner Cemetery, Braceville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Leah’s name to the Church of Hope and the Joliet Area Community Hospice would be appreciated.
