Margaret Burns

MargaretBurnsDWIGHT – Margaret Magdalene Burns, 101, of Dwight passed away Monday, October
26, 2015 at Morris Hospital and Healthcare Center in Morris, surrounded by her family.

Margaret was born in Streator October 15, 1914, daughter of Andrew and Mary Hlad Rozak. Margaret lived most of her life in Dwight. She graduated from Streator High School and worked at G.C. Murphy & Co. in Streator.

Margaret married Patrick Cyril Burns August 16, 1936. Together, Cyril and Margaret spent 65 years happily married and doting on their family.

Margaret was a member of St. Bernard Church in Sunbury for many years. She was an Altar and Rosary Society member and volunteered at many functions at St. Bernard. When Margaret and Cyril moved from the farm into the town of Dwight, they became members of St. Patrick Church in Dwight. She remained an active member of St. Patrick until her passing. Margaret and Cyril enjoyed spending more than 18 years during the winter in Florida and visits from their granddaughters on school breaks.

Margaret hosted and cooked many, many family holiday dinners at her home that her family will forever hold as dear memories in their hearts. Her love of cooking was taught and passed on to her daughters, Patricia and Margaret, and loved by the whole family.

Margaret cherished her five granddaughters, her great grandson, and her three great-granddaughters. They were the loves of her life. She loved spending time with them and hearing what activities they were doing. There is no better example of kindness and love than

how Margaret treated everyone she met. She was always doing things for others because of her strong faith in God. She prayed the rosary three times daily for her family, her friends and neighbors.

Margaret is survived by her devoted daughter, Margaret (Kenneth) Hauger of Plano; one sister, Frances Hutchison of Streator; five granddaughters, Margaret Koplin of Peru, Susan (Gus) Haramaras of Glenview, Sheila (Terry) Jones of Oswego, Paula (Darin) Lilly of Montgomery, and Theresa Hauger Kankus of Yorkville.

She is also survived by her four great-grandchildren: Andrew and Katelyn Jones of Oswego and Elle and Bebe Haramaras of Glenview; and five nieces, Ann Hutchison of Yorkville, Mary Ann Rozak, Cecila Rozak, and Jane Hutchison of Streator; and Susan Dawson of Lansing, Indiana.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband; her daughter, Patricia Koplin; her parents; two sisters and one brother.

Margaret will be greatly missed by her loving, adoring family, close friends and neighbors.
