Eloise M. Murphy

E Murphy Pic 2 BWDWIGHT – Eloise M. Murphy, 93, originally of rural Blackstone, Sunbury Township, and in the last few years of Dwight, passed away Friday, July 31, 2015 at 6:40 a.m. at Heritage Health in Dwight.

Her Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m.,  Wednesday, August 5, in St. Patrick Catholic Church, Dwight, with one hour visitation preceding the Mass.

Burial will follow in St. Paul Catholic Cemetery, Odell.

Visitation was Tuesday from 4 until 7 p.m. in St. Patrick Church, Dwight. The rosary was recited at 3:30 p.m.

Eloise was born September 30, 1921 in Flanagan, daughter of Bernard and Stella Dillon Cavanagh. She married Edmond A. Murphy February 4, 1956 in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Flanagan. He survives in Dwight.

Also surviving are sons, Thomas E. (Patricia) Murphy of Glenview and Roger L. (Jill) Murphy of Dwight; son-in-law, Brian Padgett of Antioch; and grandchildren: Conor Murphy, Flynn Murphy, Brenna Padgett, Kendall Padgett, Aaron Murphy and Kacy Murphy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Maureen Murphy in infancy and Eileen Padgett; and two brothers, Thomas Cavanagh and Harold Cavanagh.

Eloise was a graduate of Flanagan High School, Class of 1939, and received her Associates Degree in Education from Illinois State University.

She was a retired teacher of 35+ years, having taught at Wind Town Township School House, Flanagan Grade School, and Sunbury Township Grade School.

She was a member of St. Bernard Church in Blackstone, and then St. Patrick Church, Dwight; Pontiac Elks Club, AARP, Altar & Rosary Society of St. Patrick Church; was a lifelong member of the Retired Teachers of Livingston County; and the Cosmo Dance Club.

Education was Eloise’s greatest passion; she never stopped learning and never quit teaching.
